Dean was born and grew up on the North Shore of Long Island in the Village of Sea Cliff known as the “Gold Coast” 20 miles East of NYC.
Dean grew up as a 5th generation resident of Sea Cliff, NY. His great great grandfather Thomas Stanly Gill a ship & home builder, built a number of the Victorian homes in Sea Cliff that are all standing today.
Dean’s father, Dean G. Scheu, Sr. was an entrepreneur who co-founded a rechargeable battery technology company in the 1970’s. The rechargeable battery replaced dry-cell batteries on fire trucks and emergency vehicles. The patents were bought out by Eveready to keep their dry-cell battery business model in place. Dean Sr. was a USMC Veteran of the Korean War & a local volunteer fireman.
Dean’s grandfather Lawrence D. Scheu, Sr. also of Sea Cliff, NY was a Banker who ran the Trust Department at JP Morgan on Wall Street. He was with the Bank for over 46 years. JP Morgan allowed Lawrence D. Scheu Sr., to serve in the US Army during WW1 and was with the US 104th Field Artillery which fought in France.
Dean was accepted by Pace University’s Lubin School of Business where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration majoring in Marketing & an MBA in Finance. While at Pace Dean played Soccer in Division 1 and was elected to Captain.
Dean worked for the New York Football Giants during his summers when not attending business school as a Media Relations Assistant.
Sports has always been a big part of the Scheu heritage. Dean Sr. standing at 6’6” was unstoppable in basketball. His brother Lawrence D. Scheu, Jr. a midshipman who graduated from Annapolis, won the America’s Cup in 1964. Larry has the destination of being the only Naval Academy graduate to win the America’s Cup.
After graduating business school from Pace University Dean was accepted into the Petry Account Executive Training Program. The Petry training program was tougher to get into then Harvard or Yale at the time. After graduating from the training program Dean pitched and was accepted on Petry's highest revenue producing team. His total individual billings we in excess of 18 million dollars per year.
Dean was offered and accepted a position at KTLA-TV a Tribune Broadcasting Station and Petry’s biggest revenue producer. Dean was promoted from Account Executive to National Sales Manager due to his success in outperforming his budgets. As National Sales Manager Dean was responsible for 16 sales offices. Station revenues totaled over 180 million.
From KTLA-TV Dean when over to television syndication. He accepted a position as Vice President of Distribution for MTM. MTM was known to produce televisions highest quality TV shows. Mary Tyler Moore, Lou Grant, White Shadow, WKRP, The New WKRP, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, Remington Steel, Evening Shade and many more. Distribution billings exceeded 112 million.
After MTM Dean accepted a position in interactive advertising media sales with Comcast the United States largest cable network. Dean was responsible for marketing Comcasts internet properties on Google search, and VOD a new product at that time. At Comcast Dean exceeded his annual budgets by 109%.
Dean accepted an offer from Charter Communications as Director of Business Development for Advanced Media for 1,200 Account Executive nationwide. At Charter Dean exceeded all his quarterly revenue goals and KPI’s never missing a full bonus.
Moving into the start-up world. Dean joined beeTV a TV recommendation company based in Milan Italy as Chief Marketing Officer. Dean traveled worldwide presenting at the board room level to all the major Cable, Satellite and IPTV companies.
From beeTV Dean accepted a position with Final Draft as Chief Strategy Officer. Final Draft is a screen writing Software Company with over a 90% market share which is marketed to Movie & TV Studio’s. Dean was successful in reorganizing the company into positive growth which had been stagnate for several years.
